如何申请stm签证?
STM = Student Temporary Residence,学生临时类居留,是一种开放工签(open work permit)。 STM 没有明确的申请条件。移民局对于这类项目的解释比较简单“The STM Open Work Permit is available to foreign nationals who have completed a qualifying course of study in Canada or at an education institution in the United States.” 如果要解释得稍微详细一点的话是以下这些内容: “Qualifying courses include post-secondary undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies; as well as professional programs leading to membership in designations such as Chartered Accountant, Chiropractic Physician, and Law Society member;and English Language Training Programs (ELTP)” [1] “Post-secondary institutions are universities, colleges, trade schools, community colleges etc,” which must be registered with one or more of these two bodies:
• The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC), which operates on behalf of all provinces, territories and the federal government.[2] CICIC lists over 300 educational institutions across Canada that they accept as meeting their standards.
• Accrediting Boards of the United States[3] They list about 600 accredited US Colleges, Universities and Trade Schools. Note though that if your program was entirely online it might not meet this criteria, since you were not physically enrolled at any college or university.(更多细节见下文) Also note that while many people think that only US schools will qualify for an STM, this isn't true because some Canadian Institutions appear here too. This doesn’t mean however that international students from those other countries can get STMs – it means that Canadians studying abroad at these institutions would qualify. If I didn't mention something below please leave a comment so we can update this answer with more details.
The STM is valid for three years from the date of issue, but cannot be renewed. It allows holders to remain working in Canada during that time, along with their spouses and dependent children under age 22. Unlike regular open work permits, STMs do not require applicants to prove financial support while studying nor allow them to apply for settlement services like ESL classes.
